Verdacity is proud to have supported Bernalillo County’s new 41,000 SF Public Safety Training Center in achieving a Two Green Globes certification under the Green Globes for New Construction rating system, awarded on December 16, 2025 with a score of 57%.
This state-of-the-art facility brings the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue Department together under one roof, providing a centralized space where new recruits are trained and vetted before deployment across county facilities. The project demonstrates how high-performance design can support public safety, fiscal responsibility, and long-term operational efficiency.
Project Overview
Located near Rio Bravo and Broadway Avenues in southwest Albuquerque, the one-story training center includes:
Eight classrooms with integrated audiovisual systems
A lecture hall, offices, and locker rooms
A dedicated fitness center for physical training
Firearms and MILO simulation training rooms
Training bays and a 3.5-acre outdoor skills pad
Constructed with a steel frame, metal wall panels, aluminum curtain wall systems, and a white metal roofing system, the building incorporates motion-sensing lighting, solar panels, and smart thermostats, reinforcing Bernalillo County’s commitment to emissions reduction and operational efficiency. The facility was built and is managed by FireEd, an Albuquerque-based company.
Sustainability and Performance Highlights
Key achievements contributing to the Two Green Globes certification include:
Integrated design process with active participation from the owner, architects, and engineers throughout the project
27% energy use reduction compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Appendix G
High-efficiency lighting design and ENERGY STAR® appliances
HVAC systems using refrigerants with no to negligible ozone depletion potential
Construction guidelines emphasizing indoor air quality, low-VOC and sustainable materials, and recycling 75% or more of construction waste
Together, these strategies support occupant health, reduce environmental impact, and improve long-term building performance—core objectives of the Green Globes framework.
Community Impact
County leadership emphasized the broader value of the project, noting its role in strengthening emergency response, unifying public safety operations, and setting a positive example for future development in the South Valley. Beyond training outcomes, the facility represents a forward-looking investment in resilient infrastructure and responsible public spending through a build-to-suit, long-term lease model.
Why Green Globes?
The Green Globes certification system offers a flexible, transparent, and performance-based approach to sustainability—well suited for civic, institutional, and mission-critical facilities. Its interactive assessment process allows teams to align sustainability goals with real-world operational and budget constraints.
